East River

East River Professional Review and Guide

"The East River offers a wonderful opportunity to explore an extensive
Spartina salt marsh, or you can paddle upriver away from Long Island
Sound. Look for fiddler crabs, herons and egrets, osprey, northern harrier, and many other bird species."

This is a trail in a wetlands preserve. There's some woody areas, meadows and some by marshes. Lots of different birds around. It's very easy although muddy in some spots. This would be a great walk for kids and people who want to enjoy nature but don't want anything difficult.

Phenomenal flat water trail! Put in at the end of Bearhouse Hill Road in Guilford, then paddle 6 miles down to the state boat launch site in Madison. The terrain is simple and smooth, and the sites are lovely. Explore the minor tributaries. Visit the barking beaver. View egrets, kingfishers, cormorants, and osprey. Low tide brings fiddler crabs and plovers, and a possible fawn. Put in within 2 hours of high tide, or expect some carrying.
