Huron Peak

Huron Peak Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Huron Peak sits in the central Sawatch Range roughly 5 miles south of Centennial Mount Hope. This peak is farther from a paved road than just about any other fourteener in the state, so it has a reputation of being remote, even in summer. The standard hiking route on the northwest side of the peak is mellow and inviting. The lesser-explored east aspect of the peak takes on a different character entirely. Huron’s East Face and the basin surrounding Lois Lake is one of the more rugged and wild areas in the central mountains.

Jagged ridgelines and steep cliff faces rise dramatically from all corners of this basin, distinguishing it from the land of docile rock mounds that surrounds the immediate vicinity. Skinning through this basin under spring snow cover is a magazine-worthy experience akin to traveling through a desolate Alaskan glacial valley. Let your imagination run wild as you approach Huron’s East Face. This is an incredible place."
