Venable Creek

Venable Creek Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a scenic trail to high lakes with access to Venable Pass, Venable Peak, and the Venable-Comanche loop trail. From the right (north) side of the parking area, hike up the spur trail to the intersection with the Rainbow Trail (1336). Continue to the right for a short distance before turning left (west) onto the Venable Trail (1347). Hike along the right (north) side of the valley past willow and aspen groves. The forest becomes denser and the trail gets steeper as you approach the falls. A small sign indicates the steep spur trail on the left (south) that descends to the Venable Falls overlook area. The main trail stays to the right and continues to climb until it reaches the open valley and the lower lakes at the tree line. Pass an old cabin on the right and continue up into the upper valley. The trail stays to the right and begins to switchback up to a high bench containing the Venable Lakes.

The hike becomes more strenuous as the trail climbs toward Venable Peak’s east ridge. Where the trail splits, stay right to go to Venable Pass. A left leads across Phantom Terrace to the unnamed pass east of Venable Peak."
