Music Pass Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"An easy trail to a pass overlooking impressive peaks, with options for longer hikes and backpacking. One of the most scenic valley views in the range.

From the upper parking area, hike west up the gentle trail (1337) through an evergreen forest to an intersection with an old jeep road. Past the road, the trail becomes steeper and begins to switchback before reaching the pass at 1.4 miles. The pass is the boundary between the USDA Forest Service San Carolos Ranger District and Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve lands."

Great rewards for minimal effort! This trail is easy-going and the views of surrounding peaks are really incredible. Upper Sand is a beautiful alpine lake and is worth hiking to, as well. I haven't done an overnighter here yet, but the options for further hiking and backcountry camping look like they would be great.

Steep climb near the trailhead. Beautiful views open up at the pass in all directions.
