Little Sand Creek Lakes

Little Sand Creek Lakes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A lesser-used trail to a high scenic lake in Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. From the upper parking area, hike west up the gentle trail (1337) through an ever-green forest to an intersection with an old jeep road. Past the road, the trail becomes steeper and begins to switchback before reaching Music Pass at 1.4 miles.

The pass is the boundary between the USDA Forest Service San Carolos Ranger District and Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve lands. From Music Pass, descend northwest to the Sand Creek Trail (743) and turn sharply left (south) down the valley. The descent along Sand Creek requires frequent crossings. This trail is not used or maintained as often as the others in the area."
