Horn Peak Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A steep route to a high peak with impressive views of the range to the north and south. Above timberline, this route follows Horn Peak’s east ridge, exposing hikers to wind and weather; be prepared. From the summit, avoid the temptation to descend directly south to the Dry Lakes. The slopes of scree are steep and loose.
From the Horn Creek Trailhead, hike up the spur trail to the right (west) of the four-wheel-drive road to the Rainbow Trail (1336). Turn right (north) onto the Rainbow Trail, pass the Dry Creek Trailhead, and continue 0.5 mile over gentle terrain to the Horn Peak Trail; turn left (west). The lower portion of the trail climbs steeply before leveling off as it crosses Hennequin Creek. The trail switches back to the right (north) 150 feet past the creek crossing and begins a traversing climb to Horn Peak’s east ridge."
