Red Rock Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This nice, short, easy side excursion on the left (south) side of Brainard Lake Road takes you 100 yards to the lake and gives you a spectacular view of the peaks, as well as a nice look at a beautiful small lake and riparian area. If you have young children, start with this very short, easy, and scenic round-trip to Red Lake. You can wander around the lake for an easy excursion of any length."

This is a very scenic little lake in the Indian Peaks area. It is a great place for a picnic or to just relax and enjoy the scenery. Even though the Brainard Lake area is very busy through most of the summer months, this little spot often gets bypassed by people on their ways to the more well known lakes and trails. One interesting thing to visit here is the ruin of the old ranger cabin that is at the east end of the lake. At this point, all that is left is a stone porch and foundation. My dad worked here as a park ranger in the late fifties.
