Pass Creek Trail to Engineer Meadows

Pass Creek Trail to Engineer Meadows Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Quick, easy access and the promise of high-country bliss pull countless hikers of all ages to the Pass Creek Trail, better known as “We’re hiking Engineer.” The under-an-hour drive from Durango to the trailhead via the San Juan Skyway (US 550) whets the visual appetite with mountain views, including on your left, at about mile 30, the pyramid-shaped Engineer Mountain rising up out of a flower-studded meadow.

Though numerous kids have climbed the nearly 13,000-foot peak along a continuation of the Pass Creek Trail, the final ascent is precarious, requiring hand and foot holds on loose rock, a “best hike” for seasoned rock climbers only. “Make it to the meadows” defines the trail’s delight for most hikers."
