Crater Lake

Crater Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike offers delightful wildflowers, a scenic lake, and gorgeous mountain views. It’s a beautiful day hike or a nice overnight stay; the choice is up to you.

Begin by hiking up the moderate slope via the Crater Lake Trail. There’s a wonderful view back to Andrews Lake and beyond. You’ll level off (at least for a while) after 1.2 miles. The trail parallels a meadow and then drops some, heading through the trees, then back out into the open at 1.5 miles. Cross another meadow, then ford a creek at 1.7 miles. From here to the wilderness boundary, it’s a moderate, sometimes steep, climb."

"This popular trail climbs steadily to alpine Crater Lake, nestled in the base of North Twilight Peak. Hikers enjoy top-of-the-world views along the trail, interspersed with passages through wild?ower meadows and dense spruce-?r forest. Fishing at the forest-edged lake or climbing above timberline to a saddle between peaks highlights this one-or two day trip." Read more

Great scenic trail with alot of variety and views.Trail condition was excellent.1st +/-1/4 mile is semi steep switchbacks from Andrews Lake(no cutting corners!) , after that it rolls and meanders across meadows while diving in & out of the forest.Got caught in nasty, blowing, wet snowy weather at about 3 miles in that made our day hike to the lake and back a 7 hour jaunt.Would be an excellent liesurely overnight with an opportunity to grab a +13k peak along the way.Absolutely love the Wimenuche!!Signed:" The Trail Head Baggers"
