The trail itself is great. Getting there is a little bit of a pain as the dirty road that you travel for +10 miles (Rampart Range Road) is very busy and rutted. But one you are there... it more than makes up for the drive out. The trail winds out of a dense forest and then up many sets of switchbacks. There are several nice outlooks... one particularly that faces West between a couple of large rock formations. Continuing up to the top, it opens to a nice little meadow surrounded by large rocks. A surprise is the private cabin at the top. On the East side of the meadow is 147 steps leading to the fire lookout which give you 360 degree, unobstructed views of the front range... everything from Denver to the North to Pike's Peak to the South and 14ers to the West. It is a very popular trail, so be prepared for company. It is also popular with the dogs as well. I took my four year old son with me and he made the roundtrip no problem.
