Mount Aetna Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Professional skier Glen Plake said it best: “Skiing, whether you are in the Alps or Wisconsin, is a hick country sport in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.” The Monarch Pass corridor, stretching from Poncha Springs and Salida to the east and Gunnison to the west, is a ski country overlooked by most in the state of Colorado.

The Monarch Ski Resort alone is rich with history dating back to the late 1930s and has gained momentum in recent years with a reputation as a microclimate powder paradise. In an era when ski resorts are becoming increasingly crowded and posh (i.e., Vail and Aspen), it’s easy for visitors and even Colorado residents to overlook the “hidden gems” of our great state."
