Ouzel Lake is often the goal of day hikers coming from the Wild Basin trailhead. It is open to horse travel until about 100 yards from the lake, where a sign points horse travelers to a simple hitching area. A small campsite (one site) is at the lake with an open air latrine; with a swampy pond to the west and a seasonal pond to the northeast, bugs are likely an issue camping. The trail itself diverges from the continuation of the Wild Basin trail to Bluebird Lake at a well-marked junction (which is often just after the first snow patch you hit in early season--first week of June in 2018). The path itself could be better engineered--it wobbles down to near Ouzel Creek, then swings up over a small ridge and over and around things before coming back to the creek a little before the lake. It is well enough travelled to be easily followed. The popular sitting spot by the lake is at the end of the ridge to the right of the trail, so stay right after the short lateral to the campsite to avoid a swampy area near the outlet.
