"This trek offers two alternatives that go high above Wild Basin. You can hike to either the overlook at the trail intersection or Finch Lake. You can reach these destinations from either the Allenspark Trail or the Wild Basin Trailhead. The overlook offers spectacular views of this glacier-carved wonderland from above. You are also treated to great views of Mount Meeker and Chief’s Head to name just a couple. You can reach this overlook or Finch Lake by either taking a side trip or climbing up from the Wild Basin Valley or starting higher up on the Allenspark Trailhead." Read more

This is my favorite trail in RMNP. It changes every 30 mins! It is a strenuous moderate. Starts out right up the side of a mountain- that scares most people off, so it is not a well-worn trail. :-) After the steady 25 min incline it switches back to an aspen grove, later you will have half an hour of step climbing. The lake is beautiful, albeit difficult to reach sometimes due to snow, except late July/Aug.
