"Tour the “Secret Garden of the Gods” on this loop around Red Rock Canyon Park, just west of Colorado Springs. The centerpiece of the hike is a historic quarry. The trail goes right through it, then past the site of a very unusual home as it winds through this rugged and unique parcel of public land. Since the gold rush days, Red Rock Canyon and the land around it was continuously held by private owners. Few knew what it was like beyond the KEEP OUT signs, although we could guess it was interesting. Of course, out-of-state developers with bottomless pockets had their eyes on the prize—same old story. They wanted to put wide suburban roads, estate homes, hotels, and a golf course in Red Rock Canyon."
