West Fork San Juan Trail

West Fork San Juan Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Hike the West Fork Trail, and you’ll find a scenic river, hot springs, wildlife, and wildflowers. It’s a nice day hike if you concentrate on the first few miles of the trail, or you can make it a multiday backpack to Piedra Pass.

There’s a vault toilet and a registration box at the trailhead for West Fork Trail 561. From there climb up the dirt road at a moderate grade, gaining 150 feet en route to the Borns Lake Ranch entrance at 0.3 mile. You’ll walk past three cabins, crossing an unnamed creek just before reaching the third cabin at 0.4 mile. Here the road forks (a sign marks the trail) to the right and continues past a small lake not visible from the trail."
