Fish Lake Trail

Fish Lake Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The trail to Fish Lake is blessed with many switchbacks—welcome help as you ascend the thousands of feet needed to gain access to the Continental Divide. Once you are above the tree line, the views are tremendous. There’s no doubt that you’ll be glad you made the hike to the lofty realms of the South San Juan Wilderness.

From the trailhead, where you should sign in at the trail register, ford Fish Creek (you might have to get your feet wet early in the season). You will reach a junction within 100 yards. Signs point the way to Fish Creek Trail 575, which heads right (south), and to Fish Lake Trail 574, which heads left (north). Take the latter, hiking northwest and descending about 200 feet. The trail parallels Fish Creek, though you are not often next to it."
