Marvine Loop

Marvine Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike takes you to the top of the White River Plateau in the Flat Tops Wilderness via East Marvine Trail and loops back to the same trailhead via Marvine Trail for a multiday backpacking trip.

The public resource and wilderness preservation history in this area is significant. Part of the hike travels through dense spruce-fir forest conveying a primeval feeling. Once on the plateau, the land rolls along through subalpine meadows and alpine tundra punctuated by clumps of trees and short peaks. Small lakes and ponds abound. Take time to climb Big Marvine Peak or explore the various lakes on your own. Camping is available below the plateau and on top."

This was one of the most memorable climbs in my backpacking career. We set out on a 4 day loop hiking up East Marvine trail. We accomplished the climb to the top in two days, with the second including a long trek on top to our next campsite. The hike up was gorgeous climbing through aspen groves, past mountain lakes and streams. I would recommend this trail to anyone, but it is a very strenous climb, especially near the top where you make many switch backs to get up to the top. Enjoy the trail and this beautiful wilderness.
