Wahatoya Trail

Wahatoya Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is a make-your-own hike through the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Starting and exit points are suggested for a hike across the east side of the dune mass and back along Medano Creek. A few plants and various insects live in the dunes, try to be careful as you walk.

Making footprints and seeing the patterns are great fun, as is sliding down the dunes. Hiking in the sand takes a lot of energy, but it's an experience you won't soon forget! Fall is a beautiful time to visit. Watch out for thunderstorms, lightning can be extremely dangerous on the dunes!"
