Mount Falcon Park Loop

Mount Falcon Park Loop Professional Review and Guide

"Awesome uphill, great views of Red Rocks and Denver. This is some of the best singletrack in the Denver–Boulder area. Tread: 1.2 miles on doubletrack and 8.3 miles on singletrack."

"A ride for climbers—or those who aspire to be climbers. This is a well-known route that features a long, steady ascent on a wide but moderately technical trail. At the top of the big hill, riders are rewarded with a unique historical site and, for those with a little extra energy, a nice single-track loop."

"This nice hike features spectacular views of Red Rocks, the Continental Divide, and the plains. Expect to see wildlife, wildflowers, cacti, beautiful yuccas, and great views to the north, east, and west."

"Mount Falcon Open Space Park is an easily accessible hike from Denver that includes a blood-pumping climb through open meadows, ponderosa pine trees, and seasonal wildflowers. This trail covers most of the 11.1 miles of trails in Mount Falcon. Castle Trail leads from the plains to the foothills on a narrow road that once carried Stanley Steamer automobiles."

This is a beautiful trail, and makes a great easy hike with dogs. We went mid-week on a relatively cool day, and saw only a handful of other people on our hike. Most of the hike is level, with a couple of slightly steeper sections. It is clearly marked the whole way. Don't be thrown off by an intersection with the Founder's Trail around mile 2.7. You'll be looking for the intersection of the Meadow View Trail and the Painter's Pause Trail. Keep going past the Founder's Trail and you'll hit Painter's Pause in a few minutes.

This is a good trail for those who enjoy a good climb to start their ride. It climbs steady for the first 4 or more miles, but the trail has been well built so traction is good. The elevation gain is substantial so it's not for the faint of heart, but all in all a good ride. Once at the peak, there's a nice little loop at the top that's fun and non-technical. The descent is less than challenging and light on the technical side but fun nonetheless.
