Uncompahgre River Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A $100,000 stream habitat and trail project on the tailwater below the Ridgway Reservoir Dam has turned this section into a productive, hassle-free fishing experience.
Flies-and-lures-only and catch-and-release regulations have produced an outstanding trout fishery, with fish ranging from 12 to 16 inches, but it has been overshadowed by the reservoir angling. The fish will take attractor and natural dry flies and standard nymphs like Hare’s Ears, Pheasant Tails, and bead-head Princes. Look for big fish from the reservoir to run upstream to spawn. Use streamers and spoons, as well as salmon eggs and salmon-egg patterns, as big fish often position themselves downstream from spawning beds to gobble up loose eggs."
