Upper Piney River Falls

Upper Piney River Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Piney River, fed by snow that cloaks the spectacular peaks of the Gore Range, flows through a beautiful valley edged by aspen on the north and spruce-fir on the south. The first 1.3 miles of the Upper Piney River Trail undulate gently through meadows with good spots for lunch, relaxation, and great views.

The trail climbs through aspen and mixed conifer forest, crossing numerous little creeks before switchbacking downhill about 280 feet past house-size boulders. The river falls where it has carved a channel through rock slabs. Enjoy your lunch along this cascading creek."

A very gentle climb through this Valley and beautiful views of the Gore Range. It is a great trail for beginner hikers and can be quite busy especially on weekends. The trail will descend the last .5 mile to a nice resting place in the trees to put your feet in the water. The water falls are below and difficulty to see!
