Moody Hill

Moody Hill Professional Review and Guide

"A steep, exciting climb for experienced drivers. A real 4-wheeling experience but not quite hardcore. A good half-day outing. Fun for ATVs.

Large parking area across road at trail entrance. Lower section is very steep and rocky. One rocky spot is marginally difficult. Suitable for aggressive SUVs with high ground clearance and low-range gearing. Avoid trail when wet."

Technical enough to keep it interesting but nothing too scary. New to me jeep did great. Could also have some fun in the quarry...looks like several people already have. Stock CJ-7 no problems.

We went up on Sunday 11/18/07, trail is steep right away, we have an Argo 6 wheel, people in back jumped out when I went up a very steep part! Saw what was left of a machine down the bank at this same spot. We saw lots of other people going faster than I think is safe--watch out for them! Lots to see on this ride--take all the side trips you can. Did not make it to Crystal mountain, don't know if the road is open to it. No snow on this date.

Good Moderate trail with tricky section during climb in first mile or so and off camber sharp left turn further down. The rest is fairly easy. Buckhorn Road had several "Private Road" warnings written with a Sharpie on signs along the road as well as on the Green pipe gate. -Just ignore these as Buckhorn Road is a public road. Stock 1988 Toyota Xtracab 4 cyl. with rear locker and 30's
