Did this trail alone in mid July 2017. Camped just below the Avalanche Divide then followed the Gift Creek drainage and forded Avalanche Creek then out via Avalanche Creek trailhead and campground. The hike up E. Creek is strenuous but the views are spectacular at the divide. The trail is used primarily by day hikers, and not many of them. I camped alone with the entire wilderness seemingly to myself. The hike down the Gift Creek drainage is far more challenging than the hike up E. Creek. For the most part, the trail is non existent. Bushwacking is required. I did not even see signs of other hikers. But large bear sign was everywhere. Crossing Avalanche Creek was a challenge and I was fortunate to be ahead of a summer cloudburst higher up that made the stream impassable 45 minutes after I forded it. If you want a challenge, seclusion and real adventure, I highly recommend this hike.
