Picture Rock Trail Professional Reviews and Guides
"This hike is a simple out-and-back through a lovely little valley near Lyons. The route turns around at an old quarry site, but anybody who wants more mileage can keep going into the Heil Valley Ranch trail network.Picture Rock Trail, one of the newest and sweetest trails in the state, is a personal favorite that just happens to feature a historic site. Between the trailhead and an old quarry, one of many that occupied these hogbacks, the humble trail rises 600 feet in just over 3 miles of fl owing curves. The trail builders have been very generous here, literally going the extra mile to keep grades pleasant and subdued.Almost the entire route is tucked behind the hogback ridgeline in a small valley that stays relatively dry in winter and greens up nicely in the spring. Gambel oak, ponderosa pine, and cactus are common here."
