I've hiked this more than any other trail. At least a hundred times. It's moderate, especially if you take the bike trail route not the pedestrian/equestrian route. Too hot in the heat of summer- there's just NO cover. Lots of bees the last five years on the lower 20 minutes of the trail. It gets worse every year and I've reported it.
Still- I love this hike. It changes, so you have something new to look at. It takes about 3+45 to finish (including the loop- starting from the main lot up HWY 7)
I've seen herds of deer, a mountain lion, rattlesnakes, and I swear I even saw an armadillo once, but no one believes me!
If I'm not bringing Bob (my Golden) with me- then this is the nearest trail to my home, so I do it alot. If I bring Bob, the nearest is Rabbit Mountain.
Compared to Rabbit and Heil, I like Heil best, then Hall, then Rabbit. Rabbit Mountain is just too rocky! lol.
Don't wear an I-Pod if you hike the bike side. It's a popular biking trail due to it's difficulty, and some bikers can sneak up on you!
