Storm Mountain ATV Trail

Storm Mountain ATV Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Great views of front range from Storm Mountain near 10,000 ft. Eastern end of F.S.153 passes through recovering burn area. Locked gate (except during hunting season) at eastern end of 153 stops you about 1.5 miles before Stove Prairie Road. Crossing private property beyond closed gate can result in $1,000 fine and/or one year in prison. All other roads dead end at gates to private property.

The climb to Storm Mountain is very steep but the views are worth the effort. F.S. 153B has a scenic rock outcrop but
not much to see after that. F.S. 153C descends steeply and gradually narrows to a hiking trail. The long ride east through the burn area is desolate but the terrain is fun. There’s an unmarked primitive camping area (no toilet) at Nelson Spring. (If there was a natural spring in the area, I couldn’t find it.). The ride beyond Nelson Spring on F.S. 345
was pleasant but uneventful."

"Great views from near top of 9,918-ft. Storm Mountain. A network of forest roads to explore east of Galuchie Meadow. Great ATV area. ATVs are allowed after gate at start of trail. Absolutely no ATVs or unlicensed dirt bikes can ride through residential area. Narrow and steep with one challenging rocky spot. Aggressive, high-clearance SUVs with low-range gearing and good articulation can do it, but modified vehicles will have an easier time. Wet conditions significantly increase difficulty." Read more

I enjoyed this trail with my Jeep, the roads are very washboarded out though and some areas are extremely narrow which makes it difficult to move over for other vehicles coming the opposite direction.
