Deer Creek Canyon Park Professional Review and Guide
"Rugged, rocky, and red. That’s Deer Creek Canyon Park, on the extreme southwest edge of suburban Denver. Tackle one of the toughest climbs on the Front Range to reach a pair of quick loops perched high in the foothills. How do you feel about rattlesnakes? I ask because Deer Creek Canyon is home to a lot of them, and the chance of encountering one of the maraca-tailed land eels while visiting this area could not be described as small. Twice I have come across large rattlers coiled up right in the middle of the trail here—maybe it was the same snake. (Both encounters were in the bottom part of the park, within a few hundred feet of the trailhead kiosk, but many years apart.) And several other times I have seen dead rattlesnakes on the roads in the area, the poor bastards having surrendered to the warm pavement in the morning sun."
