Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"When it comes to wildflowers along the Well Gulch Trail, you name it, you’ll see it. Heck, you don’t even have to name it—just see and enjoy the amazing display of flowers including lupine, larkspur, wild geranium, spiderwort, and bee balm. From the open grasslands of the parking lot picnic area and trailhead kiosk, you can’t even tell what a cozy, lush trail is ahead of you up Well Gulch. Start by walking across the grassland trail to the west. You have a good chance to see raptors flying above who are looking for prey below. Enter the gulch and leapfrog over the intermittent stream. The rock walls close in on either side. Take your time on this hikers-only trail to look for wild geranium in the spring and bee balm, spiderwort, and lupine in summer. Cottonwoods grow upstream along the water." Read more

"Walk this interpreted loop and discover the best of what surrounds Horsetooth Reservoir; its meadows, creeks, rock formations, and viewpoints. Kids like stopping at the cool grotto early in the hike, later finding sparkly rocks on the trail." Read more
