Santa Fe Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"For some, the thought of hiking across a nearly featureless prairie within sight of a highway does not sound appealing. For the committed history buff, however, such an excursion can be irresistible, especially if the hike follows the actual route of the Santa Fe Trail.

Thanks to the route’s recognition as a national historic trail by Congress in 1987, it is now possible to visit and enjoy many different portions of the trail. One such place is found between the towns of La Junta and Trinidad along US Highway 350. Here you can walk a stretch of the famed trail that is delineated by stone markers."
