Trails meander along a high ridge east of Buena Vista with stunning views of the Collegiate Peaks in distance. Because of sandy soil, the trails are always changing due to erosion and repacking. This results in twisting and undulating terrain that is fun to ride and usually not difficult. It is absolutely critical that you stay on existing trails. The basic route described here is about 27 miles and takes 2 to 3 hours. Allow a full day to cover the entire north side. The trail heads east then circles around large loop to return via same route. This allows an opportunity to try side trails in either direction. Riders of different abilities can split up, then rejoin.
