"The lovely drive from Fort Collins up Poudre Canyon to Cameron Pass provides some beautiful scenery. At the pass, however, your special treat is the magnificent Nokhu Crags, which loom above to the southwest. An easy trek parallels an aqueduct known as the Michigan Ditch. A Colorado State Park usage fee is required. Maps are available on signboards along the initial part of the route. Be careful crossing Colorado 14. Begin from the east side of the highway to the southeast on a wide road into the forest. Avoid the occasional side roads and stay fairly level along the aqueduct. After 1 mile, you pass several primitive cabins. Continue generally south in scenic open terrain until you reach a four-way intersection 2.2 miles from the trailhead. A sign for American Lakes and Thunder Pass will be on your left. This can be your turnaround point unless you want to explore the other three options. The lovely mountains to the northwest are known as the Diamond Peaks." Read more
