This is a favorite drive of mine, but it is not for the faint of heart when it comes to heights. You will abandon all guard rails at about 8,000 feet. In places, you can look out the window and look straight down. One bend near the top reminds me of the view from a cockpit of a plane as it is taking off. Your window looks up at the sky, and the road seems to disappear. You will have the feeling that the ground has dissappeared from under you! (the road actually makes a dip, and a sharp curve, but the illusion is sure to have more than one nervous passenger gasping). The fantastic views and ability to observe high alpine tundra from the WARMTH of your vehicle makes this a truely unique drive. But there are also many great spots to get out and hike as well!
