Blue Mesa Reservoir Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A 15-mile-long crystalline blue impoundment, Blue Mesa Reservoir snakes through the sand-colored, sagebrush-studded mesas of the lower Gunnison Basin beneath the jagged peaks of the West Elk Wilderness.
While rainbows and kokanees are the reservoir’s most popular fish, lake trout can reach 30-plus pounds. Springtime is the best lake trout and big brown trout fishing. Lake trout can be taken on deep-trolled heavy jigging lures with chunks of sucker meat.
Key Species: Lake trout, rainbow trout, kokanee, brown trout, Snake River cutthroat trout."
