"Taylor Pass has great views looking down on Taylor Lake, a popular fishing spot. The ghost town of Ashcroft is located at the start of the trail. Portions of Taylor Pass are adjacent to the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. Many miles of bowling-ball size rocks. Stock, high-clearance vehicles can make it but undercarriage damage is possible. No major obstacles, but one creek crossing is fairly challenging. Rocky section is very slow going. Balance of trail is easy to moderate." Read more

This was my first "real" off-road trail. It was easy in my stock Mitsubishi Raider (basically a Dodge Dukota). Very bumpy and slow going. No major obstacles. There are two creeks crossings in the first 5 miles, both were easy. WARNING: As of July 1st 2008, there is avalanche snow across the road about 5 miles in (almost all the way to the pass). At least two vehicles were able to go over it before me, but I managed to get very stuck. As I was forced to dig my way out, only about 2/3 of it is left. I would guess two adults with real shovels could get it cleared in an hour.
