"While the West Elk Wilderness is the stuff that memorable multiday hikes are made of, this nice little day hike accesses a great view of the extensive wilderness as it climbs from the Lost Lake Campground to 9,970-foot Beckwith Pass."
"The East Beckwith massif looks as cool in person as it does on the map. Go for the twin summits or saddle up your courage and go for the optional Horseshoe Heroes Loop."

A nice hike. Easy climb with lots of wildflowers and scenery. Suitable for "old folks" But watch for the horse manure.

The trail had light snow and since it was warm and sunny, the trail was muddy. Wore orange--it was rifle season and hunters were sighted in the woods. The leaves were off the aspens there were good views of the Ruby Range, the Ragged Mountains (especially Marcelina), the Anthracites, and the West Elks all along the way. Once we reached Beckwith Pass we countoured back beneath the East Beckwith cliffs until we reached Dollar Lake. Then we followed that trail back to Lost Lake and Lost Lake Slouogh where we were parked. A very good fall hike.
