East Inlet Trailhead Lake Verna Campsite

East Inlet Trailhead: Lake Verna Campsite Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"After the first few easy miles, all with a high probability of seeing moose, the trail becomes steep and takes hikers to a wonderful wooded campsite on a spectacular subalpine lake: Lake Verna.

This overnight destination is unique because it’s ringed by high alpine peaks, and the campsite itself is the highest elevation of all the campsites on this trial. Lake Verna also signifies the end of the maintained trail; the trail does continue, but it’s not maintained by Rocky Mountain National Park."

We stayed 1night at the Slickrock campsite, but hiked up to Lake Verna 2 separate times. A very steep hike in some sections, good to have poles. Do not leave at 3 or 4pm!! Took about 4 hrs to get to Slickrock, another 30 min. to Lake Verna. Almost the same time going down. Also bring BUG SPRAY. Views are ok, lots of dead trees. Saw many day hikers - seems like too long a hike for that unless you leave trailhead at 6am. Saw 2 moose, caught some fish. A good trip overall.
