Joe Wright Trail

Joe Wright Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This is the easiest winter tour in the beautiful Cameron Pass area. The Joe Wright Trail consists of two loops in a figure-eight pattern. These can be traversed in less than an hour. There is usually good snow in this area until late March.

From the trailhead signboard on the north side of Colorado 14, 200 yards east of the parking area, begin to the north northwest and keep left as the loop begins. Follow the blue diamond markers over gentle terrain past the high point of this trek and soon reach a fork with arrows pointing left and right. Left is the upper loop. Descend to the right (southeast) to another fork at the lowest point of the loop. Go left (east) here and complete the upper loop at the fork you encountered earlier. Go left here (southeast) and descend again to the fork at the low point. Then go to the right (south) and gradually ascend through the forest to complete the loop, and then go left back to the starting point. Comanche Peak lies to the southwest beyond Colorado 14 and the Joe Wright Reservoir."
