Riggs Hill

Riggs Hill Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Elmer Riggs and his crew of paleontologists from the Field Museum in Chicago discovered and excavated huge fossilized bones of a previously unknown dinosaur, Brachiosaurus altithorax, on this hill in 1900.

Still on display outside the Field Museum in Chicago, the 75-foot-long plant-eater weighed 44 tons. A self-guided tour of Riggs Hill leads to sites where these bones, as well as partial skeletons of Stegosaurus and Allosaurus, were found."
