Saxon Mountain

Saxon Mountain Professional Review and Guide

"Great views of Georgetown, I-70 corridor and Mt. Evans from different points along the route. Endless switchbacks are impressive. Old log cabins scattered along the route. Extensive mining history explained on information boards at the top of Saxon Mountain. Don’t miss historic Georgetown and great visitor center. ATVs are allowed on road but no staging at start. Drive part way up until you find wide spot to unload. A steep shelf road with many switchbacks. The road is wide most of the way but very narrow in a few places. Rock falls are a common occurrence with the possibility that a large boulder could block the road at any time. Use extra caution after rainy periods. The road is rocky and bone jarring but suitable for stock, high-clearance SUVs under normal conditions. Stay off road if snow covered."

Great views from the many switchbacks. The road is pretty rough; not as easy as it was a few years ago. Still some snow blocking the road, but this should be expected in early June.
