Others have mentioned the distances, no news there. What is not mentioned is it’s a great snowshoe trail. Parking begins to the right at the Guanella Pass road pull out, just past the camp site, but is still very easy. Go right to Silver Dollar lake. If you turn left into the lollipop parking and go up the farther road, that goes to Mt. Bierstadt. Go mid week, no one is up there, the view is spectacular and all totaled its about a 3.5 out and back. Too steep to go down to the lake on snowshoes for us, but it can be done. The trail is well packed, watch for the Silver Dollar trial sign and follow the most logical trail routes from one blue tree blaze to the next. We started at noon and made it back by 2:45 to the truck. Once down you’ll want to stop at the Guanella Pass Brewery in Georgetown, quaint, personable staff, great beer and supports the small town during the off season.

This trail is close to Denver and easier to get away. Once you see the trail head, it will be a short 4x4 road up to trail head. There are several nice camp spots on this road. You will see trailhead on the left and parking on your right. Trail start of well mark, then it turns a little confusing because lot of tree block off the main trail and mislead where you should be. You can get lost easy, so looks ahead to see further to help make your way. Nice hike and great view.

Great hike convenient to the Denver metro area. It's one of the easier hikes to an alpine lake above treeline I've been on. Still several snow fields to cross, but they've shrunk a lot in the last couple of weeks. Bring a rod! This lake is full of 12 - 20" trout!
