Gold Belt Tour Back Country Byway

Gold Belt Tour Back Country Byway Professional Review and Guide

"A 122-mile loop drive through scenic canyons on the southern slope of Pikes Peak between Cripple Creek and Canon City. It’s a Type I and II byway, with some paved sections but mostly graded gravel roads. The Gold Belt Tour Back Country Byway connects the Cripple Creek and Victor gold mining district with Canon City and Florence in the Arkansas River Valley via three unsurfaced roads. The Phantom Canyon Road and Shelf Road both slice south through steep canyons on the southern slopes of Pikes Peak. High Park Road crosses open mountain parklands.

Special Attractions: Indian Springs Trace Fossil Site, Beaver Creek Wilderness Study Area, Victor National Historic District, Cripple Creek National Historic District, Window Rock, Shelf Road Climbing Area, Garden Park Fossil Area, Red Canon Park, Skyline Drive, Canon City National Historic District, Royal Gorge Park. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
