Total time up was approximately 3 1/2 hours. Last couple hundred yards amounts to climbing through boulders. Otherwise trail is in very good shape and easy to follow. Trail is very popular and was quite crowded with hikers... a common problem on Mt Bierstadt. Great views of course. Weather was excellent.

Great beginner trail. It is not too technically challenging, although a few of the hairpin corners necessitated my getting off the bike and walking it around the corner. I did have a major wreck, but this was due to my newness at the sport and not the demand of the trail. I would love to ride this trail again if I ever get back to Evergreen!

The wet cold weather weather made this trail treacherous near the summit. And there is a significant stream that was flowing very fast and high with no bridge near the bottom. It's not very fun to start out a hike with soaked feet.

Well, I'm new at mountain biking so Elk Meadow was my first actual trail ride.I've done it now about 5 times. It has a little of everything. There's climbing a little tech. here and there and downhill at the end.I get a good workout and have been able to sharpen my skills.Generally I go around twice for mileage.

a new trail segment has been added from Bergen Park to
the northeast corner of Elk Meadow. May be a much better
starting point, especailly on high use days (weekends and
holidays)

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"As the name suggests, Elk Meadow’s trail system is home to elk and deer. Hiking the Sleepy S Loop almost guarantees deer sightings. Perhaps it’s the secluded pine forest or the meadow and mountain views that attract the deer and sometimes the elk. Either way, it’s a beautiful place to call home and a beautiful place for a moderate hike." Read more

"This loop can be run in either direction, but running it clockwise allows you to run down the final section along the meadow, and gets the major climbing out of the way at the beginning. From the trailhead, follow the Sleepy S Trail as it heads toward Bergen Peak, before it turns and begins to wind through the open pine forest. At 0.5 mile, the Elk Ridge Trail branches off to the right; continue on the Sleep S Trail as it continues south before it begins to climb up west into the forest." Read more
