Bergen Peak–Elk Meadow Professional Review and Guide
"This ride starts with a rocky, 2,000-foot climb to the summit of Bergen Peak. In just 12 miles you’ll climb and descend one of the toughest hills near the Front Range and ride most of the trail mileage offered at scenic Elk Meadow Open Space. There’s an ongoing debate among local riders: Which Front Range off-road climb is the toughest? Which one hurts the most? Okay, maybe “debate” is too strong a word.
Some dudes bring it up once in a while, and people talk about it. In my opinion, Bergen Peak is indeed the most difficult climb on the Front Range, edging out Mount Falcon and Chimney Gulch. White Ranch and Deer Creek are also worth mentioning, but not really in the same league. I’m certainly not alone in this opinion, although the Mount Falcon delegation is sizable as well. Bergen has some shade that is sorely lacking over on Mount Falcon, but it’s a longer climb and more challenging technically."
