This makes a good early or late season hike, with some enjoyable, easy rock hiking over the last few hundred yards to the summit. The rock you are scrambling on is the very granular Pikes Peak granite, common throughout the area. The devastation in the area from the Buffalo Creek fire is shocking but already there are fascinating signs of life coming back to the forest. Curious outcrops and interesting geology are the hallmarks of this portion of the Pike National Forest.
