Deer Mountain is an outstanding family hike for any nice afternoon. RMNP is great year round. Countless elk were roaming the lower half of the mountain, while the view and atmosphere at the top were outstanding. If 14ers are your thing and darkness is looming, sometimes you just have to get outside. A great hike for someone who hasn’t acclimated to Colorado yet.

I don't know why this is only listed under winter hiking. This is my favorite RMNP day hike! Views all the way up, except for the last 1/4 until you get to the top. It's a great hike to take for the physically fit on your second day in the mountains, after a little acclimation to the elevation and maybe to get ready for a bigger one later. Great picnic spot at the top.
