Stanley Mountain Trail

Stanley Mountain Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike follows the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) as it crosses Berthoud Pass and heads west. Stanley Mountain is the first peak to the west of the pass and the entire hike is above timberline. Since weather is always a concern in Colorado, it is best to start the hike early and be off the peak before noon. I was caught on this stretch of the CDT in a nasty thunderstorm that I still remember for the bolts of lightning around me.

A hike on the CDT also lends itself to a backpack, although a longer excursion along a ridgeline requires meticulous preplanning and favorable weather. In addition to packing proper gear, you will need to consult one of the books on the CDT to plan your overnight stops and access to water, in particular if you are hiking with a dog."
