Indian Peaks Wilderness Devil’s Thumb Lake

Indian Peaks Wilderness: Devil’s Thumb Lake Professional Review and Guide

"The hike to Devil’s Thumb Lake is one of the classic hikes into Indian Peaks Wilderness. It is also one of the most popular, and often crowded, area hikes.

This trail takes you into beautiful scenery that includes alpine meadows, mountain lakes, and views of snowcapped mountains. The hike is long and often wet but full of waterfalls in late spring and early summer. The trail crosses gently sloping terrain interspersed with steep stretches."

This was a wonderful hike, though difficult at times as trails tend to fade in places, but well worth the adventure. There was an abundance of Elk and deer sightings, we also encountered a couple of 'cats' which were very young but didn't stick around to see where 'Mom' was. Be prepared for hail storms during the late afternoon hours as we got hit twice in the three days we spent exploring the area. (nice bruising from the hail on my bear skin areas) The evenings were awesome, with a full symphony of Elk bugling and Coyotes howling and random barking sounds. Wonderful wildlife experience on top of gorgeous scenary.
