The Colorado Trail: Kennebec Trailhead to Junction Creek Trailhead Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This segment of the Colorado Trail is quite spectacular in many respects. It has the most vertical travel of any segment of the CT, more than 4,700 feet of vertical in one direction and 1,400 feet in the other (total up or down, depending on the direction of travel.) The views are greatly reduced, since most of this section is in dense forest and at the bottom of a narrow canyon.
Although there is plenty of water in the canyon, flat camping spots are rare. Toward the south end of this segment, as the CT climbs out of the canyon, there are plenty of nice flat spots, but no water. Finally, where the canyon widens, with some nice spots and plenty of water, camping is prohibited due to popular appeal and high-density use. To reduce frustration, plan your trip down this segment carefully and stop early before all the best sites are taken."
