Spud Potato Lake Trail 661 San Juan National Forest

Spud (Potato) Lake Trail #661: San Juan National Forest Professional Review and Guide

"Known by locals as Spud Lake, Potato Lake is a great family adventure. Be sure to grab a fishing pole (and permit) for this hike. Potato Lake offers beautiful mountain scenery at a high-altitude fishing pond. The lake sits at the base of Spud Mountain and gives hikers hours upon hours of hiking, exploring, fishing, and relaxing options.

The San Juan National Forest is southwestern Colorado’s gateway to adventure and includes approximately 1.8 million acres of federal lands that are managed by the U.S. Forest Service. There is an amazing range of scenery in this part of the Four Corners region. Near the actual Four Corners, Colorado consists of high desert mesas and canyons, and as you travel east into the state, you will encounter majestic alpine peaks and meadows. The San Juan National Forest features a national forest scenic byway, the San Juan Skyway Scenic Byway, and a Bureau of Land Management four-wheel-drive scenic byway, the Alpine Loop Backcountry Byway. Visitors come here for the same reason that the locals live here: They can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fi shing, skiing, horseback riding, and camping."
