Endlich Mesa / Burnt Timber Shuttle Hike Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The route described here is an amazing hike filled with wildlife, wildflowers, grand views, and a scenic lake. It’s best to do the hike in a counterclockwise direction. Do so, and you’ll gain 2,550 feet and descend a total of 5,190 feet. Hike clockwise, and you’ll have to gain more than 5,000 feet. You’ll need a shuttle for this backpack trip because of its length. If a shuttle isn’t available, or if you just feel like a day trip, you can hike the first few miles from either end.
The trail is a series of small roller coasters: It climbs, descends a bit, and then climbs some more, traveling across alpine tundra with see-forever views. To the west you can look at Missionary Ridge (just across the Florida drainage) and, farther west, the La Plata Mountains. Look north to see a portion of the jagged Needle Mountains and east for more of the rugged Weminuche Wilderness."
